Sorry it’s been a little while since I last posted, especially as there has been some big news since I last posted. I say big news, it’s probably nothing you don’t already know (well, some of you at least) but seeing as I’ve not written about it on here I thought I’d better get round to sorting that out!
So, the news? The big adventure is fast becoming a reality! I handed my notice in at the end of last month and I have just over two weeks left before I take that big step into “unemployment” and the break I so desperately need. I’m not sleeping too good at the moment and I’m exhausted because of it and all the driving. The daily headaches I thought I’d kicked into touch last year are back with a vengeance…grrrrr!
Unfortunately, work didn’t agree to me taking a sabbatical. I think they’ve been burnt by that recently by two high-level managers and didn’t want to risk it again, so I had to hand my notice in. No bother, it wasn’t as if I was expecting anything else to be honest.
It’s only the second time in my working career that I’ve taken this step, the first being when I left GEC back in 1999, and this wasn’t any easier to do. I know it’s the right thing for me, but leaving the people – not the job – is going to be the hardest bit for sure.
All exciting stuff and I can very soon seriously concentrate on getting the route sorted out, all the planning in place and get some training miles under my belt. I do have a new website in the planning but as I’m working on another web project for next door at the moment, the new site to track the adventure won’t be up and running for little while yet. I’ll get that sorted out as soon as I can once I’m no longer doing the 9-to-5 of normal employment and post a link to it here.
Hopefully I’ll get to see as many of you as I can before I hit the road at the beginning of May (that’s the expected start date at the moment) but if I don’t manage it, hopefully I’ll catch up once I’ve finished and recovered.
Exciting times ahead!
